This week we visited the doctor for our last 2nd trimester check up, assuming that I didn’t fail my diabetes test. It’s amazing how quickly time flies! It seems like just yesterday, I was calling Juan at work to tell him that the stick had an undeniable + on the pregnancy test. It is difficult for me to imagine that in 2-3 months the soccer player in my belly is going to be sleeping in the crib in the next room. Exciting & freakin’ scary!
Dr. Wilson gave us some surprising news at the end of the appointment. Apparently, she thinks that I’m falling into a more high risk category because of my blood pressure. She gave me an 80% chance of going out on bed rest sometime around 36 weeks (August 20). She also suspects that the blood pressure issue will force us to induce early. This was not really a surprise, but was definitely a shock for me.
I’ve been running under the assumption this whole time that I would be working until the middle of Sept. I’ll admit that this was totally naive and stupid, but I’m not always the smartest when it comes to balancing work & the real world. To be really honest, the early break will be nice. Things have been insane at the office and I’m putting myself under too much pressure, which has prompted one of the worst cases of exhaustion that I’ve ever experienced.
On a more interesting note, Juan and I have agreed on a first name for the baby.
Julianna. For the Texans reading this, the first “a” should be pronounced like ”dawn” not like “ant.” Just saying her name makes me smile & beam radiant light. It’s amazing how you can love someone so much without even meeting or seeing her.
I’m proud to announce that Julianna is already a music lover. Juan & I were playing Rock Band with our good friend Emily last weekend and the baby definitely was responding to certain songs. We would play 1 song and she would kick and punch, then play the next song and she wouldn’t move at all.
It’s fascinating that in the womb the baby can already have opinions & preferences. My Aunt Pam told us a story about when she was pregnant with my twin cousins, one twin would get the hiccups and then immediately the second twin would kick out his legs thrust his arms upward. You can imagine the impact on my poor aunt, who was already short on internal space because she was carrying twins.
Hey Robyn – I love your blog! It has inspired me to pick my blog back up (or at least to plan to pick it back up). Anyway, I enjoy reading your updates. I know we lost touch many years ago but you remain a happy part of my history and I am so glad that Facebook has allowed our paths to cross again. I am sorry that you have some health issues that have complicated your pregnancy a bit, but it sounds like you are managing it well. Just follow your doctor’s advice and listen to your instincts. You and Julianna will be just fine. (Love the name, by the way!) Love to you and Juan and Julianna.
Ack! The blood pressure issue is scary, but I’m sure everything will turn out fine (perhaps not as you planned, but fine). Sounds like you are in capable medical hands. I love the name y’all picked out, by the way!
Great name!
